Sample Name:
Hitting the left and right keys will cycle you through all of the samples in the currently selected
file. Hitting <RETURN> or the first character of the command will bring up a pick list for all of
the samples in the current file. You can select one using the up and down arrow keys, and
then hitting <RETURN> or <SPACE> when you are satisfied.
The 'New' selection is used to create a new sample. It prompts you to enter a new name or
modify the existing one (The modified name will be the name of a new sample. Use the
RENAME SAMPLE command if you just want to change a sample's name.). Hit <RETURN> when
you are done. New samples default to the settings of the last sample which had been
selected.
Record Sample:
This command is used to sample in the audio data. Recording can be stopped at any time by
hitting any key on the keyboard (although this leaves the old sample with as much of the new
audio as you let in at its front). The audio you are sampling is fed through as you sample it so
you can hear what is going on. Monophonic samples use only the Right channel.
If the THRESHOLD has been set, the DAS-100 waits for the input on the right channel to exceed
the threshold before it starts recording data (the left channel is ignored). If you have made the
sample length longer for an existing sample, then the DAS-100 will prompt you and then
spend a little time making room for this new sample length.
Clipping makes a rather unpleasant noise in digital audio systems. For this reason it is
important to adjust the levels for the sample before it is taken. If you can't watch for clips while
taking the sample, don't worry, you can see them on the playback too.
Playback:
This command plays back the currently selected sample. Playback can be stopped at any
time by hitting any key on the keyboard. MONOPHONIC samples come out only on the RIGHT
channel. The clip indicators will repeat any clips which were found when the audio was
sampled. If the LOOPING MODE is ON, then the sample will repeat until you tell it to stop (by
hitting any key).
